LandMood: winter sun, snow and ice around homes in Saskatoon and Calgary
LandMood shows how one home, yard or driveway in Saskatoon or Calgary differs from the places around it in winter: direct sun and shadows, where snow piles up and lasts into spring, where meltwater ponds, and where it refreezes into ice. It is decision support for home buyers comparing houses, not a forecast, inspection or engineering assessment.
How it works
Search an address or click the map to place an X, then compare up to three homes. Results are for a typical year (2016โ2025) and are shown as bands and differences from the surroundings, with a confidence label, not as exact measurements. The Now view shows shadows at the real current time.
Free and paid
The map is free to explore, with no account. A paid report for up to three homes adds a side-by-side comparison, winter zone maps around each home, front and back yard drainage, hour-by-hour yard sun, a showing checklist, and print or PDF.
Data
Built from public data: Natural Resources Canada 1 m lidar (ground, buildings, trees), Environment and Climate Change Canada airport weather records, ERA5-Land climate data, OpenStreetMap, the Integrated Canadian Hail Database and the Canadian National Tornado Database. Plowing, salting, fences and changes after the lidar survey are not seen.
